After Isabell passed away, the family decided to leave
Ft. Collins and move back to the Spaulding Nursery in
Illinois. Father tried to sell his sixty acres on “Main
Street.” . . . He had difficulty in finding a buyer, so a
friend suggested he subdivide his property and sell
residential lots. Success! Later, in Sprinfield, he bought
sixteen old estates, subdivided them, and made a good
profit. [Later in his life, in California, he did this on a
much larger scale.]
